I finally figured out how to do Vegas.
1. Attend the SAG Awards the night before you go. And try to take home a statue.
2. Get up early to hop on your plane.
3. Leave the baby with your over-generous and under-informed dad.
4. Spend much of the day rehearsing and playing craps.
5. Have a lovely dinner with your Lovely Wife.
6. See Penn & Teller at The Rio.
7. Spend about an hour and a half backstage with Penn & Teller, not saying much, but smiling and nodding, and realizing that if your 13-year-old self knew that this would ever happen, your tiny brain would have melted out of your tiny skull.
8. Spend the next day freaking out about the night before, and preparing for your show that night.
9. Decide to take Penn's adamant advice and see Tom Jones.
10. Learn what a "man" is, and know that you will never fully be one.
11. Perform your tiny part in your tiny show and have a ball.
12. Stay up late and hug your friends.
13. Head home and realize that it just doesn't get much better than this.
1. Seeing Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, and Meryl Streep for the first time since the premiere of Prada. And they were all as lovely and wonderful as I'd remembered.
2. Having the main topics of any conversation center around, in order: a) my appearances on The Soup, and b) winning a SAG Award.
3. Winning a SAG Award.
Incredible, incredible night.
More later. I have to get on a plane to Vegas in 26 minutes.
Hi, all.
Mad Men is nominated for three Screen Actors Guild Awards: Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series (Jon Hamm) and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series (Elisabeth Moss).
Also Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Blog (me).
(hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhhhahahaaahahahahahahah i've still got it!)
Please to watch and root for us!
Sunday, January 24, at 8/7 Central, on both TNT and TBS.
Fingers crossed!
So, like I said, we did The Soup.
Here's the bit, in case you missed it:
I like Joel McHale. That guy? He's funny.
Here're the boys and Matt Weiner, celebrating after the stint.
HE HAS A CONTRACT AND IT'S GOOD NEWS AND I'M GOING BACK TO WORK AND THANK GOD AND I AM SO HAPPY FOR HIM AND US AND THANK GOD AGAIN.
And we won another Golden Globe.
It's been an ooooooookay week.
- Yes, I'm still alive.
- I mean, it was amazing and surreal. The strangest moment was looking up from a hug and seeing that theater of people, and the back of Matt, giving his speech. So happy for Matt and so proud of all of us.
- I'm planning to, yes. It's just been really busy. I will get back into a regular posting routine at some point.
- Purple. Why?
- It's on tonight, at 9pm E/P. On NBC. I'm near the end of the episode.
- I'm not supposed to talk about it, but you know the old saying: "This is not my only episode."
- Take a left at the light, and it's the second house on the right. The one with the trees.
- They're both fantastic, thank you. Bea has three teeth, and The Lovely Virginia has lots more. Here's us at one of the Emmy parties:
Did you say "sixteen Emmy nominations?"
I... That's a lot.
So awesome!
Work was really, really fun the past two days. I've never heard so many champagne pops.
Tune in to AMC tomorrow for the all day Mad Men Marathon of Season One. Catch up! Relive! See it for the first time!
Because a week from tomorrow, it's Season Two.
And I think you might enjoy it.
Yay!
1. SAG Awards. Okay. So I've wanted to post pictures and all that, but we've had family in town and/or I've been sick with some type of flu (even though our pediatrician made me get a flu shot (against my will)), so it's been tough.
Here are some red carpet pictures.
If you're a Mad Men fan in the Twin Cities, you should listen to their show. In fact, if you're a Mad Men fan in the Twin Cities, it's probably because you listen to their show. They're awesome.
I've had a couple requests (seriously), so here's a full-length photo of me and The Lovely Virginia.
And my shoes -- oh, man, my shoes!
These beauties were designed by Mr. Phillip Bloch. He was gracious enough to allow me to wear them on what was one of the coolest nights of my life. They're his special design for Hush Puppies, and they're coming out later this year.
I was the first person to wear them out besides Phillip himself.
And that.
Is awesome.
It helps that a) they were comfortable as hell, b) which is WAY more than I can say for any other pair of dress shoes I've ever owned, and c) I also happen to love these shoes.
I'm sure it's some sort of fashion faux pas in Hollywood, but I imagine you'll be seeing these babies on my feet at future events.
2. Bea. This kid is crazy.
Crazy-awesome, that is.
Here she is celebrating our big night.
Last night, she decided to sleep for a six-hour stretch. This is the longest she has ever slept in a single shot. I had no idea how good six hours felt until I got it for the first time in seven weeks.
Man, it was good.
The Lovely Virginia and I think she probably did it as a gift to us for
3. Our Combined Birthday. Which is today. The Lovely Virginia and I celebrate our weird kismet-ty birthday(s) today. I am only older than her by one year, but it feels like a lot more years this year in particular.
Because I have turned thirty.
I remember my dad's thirtieth birthday party. It's one of my earliest memories, but it's there.
That's, how you say, "trippy."
Happy birthday, Wifus. This has been a good year.
[EDIT]
4. One more thing. Should have mentioned this last week. Bob Sassone, of AOL's TV Squad blog, linked here, calling this "one of the coolest celebrity blogs you'll find." That's weird on a million levels, not the least of which is calling this a "celebrity blog." But I appreciate it, anyway.
5. One more one-more-thing thing. Remember Improv Everywhere? (recognize the guy in the top picture on this post?) This is a prank they did about a year ago but just put up online. See me looking around like I have no idea what's going on?
Sometimes I miss NYC.
Mad Men won both Golden Globes it was up for: Best Drama Series and Best Actor.
I am entirely beside myself.
This has been one of the most incredible nights of my life.
Awesome!!
Jon Hamm is a golden god.

1. I got to feed Bea for the first time. In preparation for an outing The Lovely Virginia was going on today, I had to opportunity to feed Bea from a bottle. It was awesome. She didn't take to it right away, but she eventually figured it out and was a champ, as usual. She has been an awesome eater from day one. It's a load off our minds, since we had heard horror stories of babies who wouldn't latch on, etc. Sure, she's not the best sleeper in the world... But we take what we can get. We still love the crap out of her.
2. I received my invitation to the SAG Awards ceremony. As you may have heard, Mad Men has been nominated for Best Ensemble in a Drama, and I am named as one of the nominees. It's incredible. I have always loved the SAG Awards, and this year will be even more exciting for several reasons. First off, it's the 75th anniversary of the Screen Actors Guild. Secondly, um, our show is nominated. And third, this is one of the only award ceremonies going untouched by the WGA strike. It's going to be a helluva party. You can watch the awards on January 27, at 8pm/7pm Central, on TBS and TNT. I can't wait. We're in a stacked category (against Sopranos, Boston Legal, The Closer and Grey's Anatomy), but it's going to be an incredible night either way.
And now, why the day before yesterday was also awesome.
I was at Barnes & Noble and saw Charlie Gillingham, keyboardist for Counting Crows, enter the store. I tried not to geek out too much, but had to tell him how much I love his work.
I've seen Counting Crows live several times. He has always been my favorite member of the band to watch. I love him.
It was awesome.
